MLFG at Better Homes and Gardens Live
Over the weekend Emma and I took My Little Fairy Garden to Better Homes and Gardens Live in Perth.
It was a great weekend and there was so much for the show’s visitors to see and do including browsing the stands, make and take in the Ryobi workshop, masterclasses with the experts, meeting the stars in the Fanzone, feeding animals at the petting zoo, activities and games in the kids zone or escaping into the secret garden.
The Better Homes and Gardens TV stars and magazine editors held regular presentations over four stages. We were thrilled when Jason Hodges strolled by our stand on the first morning, introduced himself (like we didn’t know who he was!) and asked if he could use some of our miniatures in his broken pot garden demonstrations. Of course we said yes! Although he took no time at all whipping up his gardens, he gave all the tips for spending an hour or two to create a more detailed garden at home with the kids. Without wanting to exclude the boys, he chose ‘boyish’ accents for some of the gardens, such as the friendly scarecrow, brown wire furniture and a mountain goat.
Craft editor, Julia Matthews, also dropped by our stall during a quiet moment on Friday afternoon. She was so lovely to chat with and her passion for all things creative really shone through. We talked miniatures at length and she even gave me some awesome inspiration, including a very cool scene for the flamingos from our Gypsy Garden collection, which we hope to stock soon.
It’s a massive job preparing and setting up for an event like this, but it’s worth it when we see the delight on visitors faces as they see our stand and display gardens. From reminiscing with Grandmas who built fairy gardens many years ago, to introducing little ones to the magic with a sprinkling of pixie dust, it was a great three days. It’s so lovely to see the faces and learn the stories behind our customer purchases, which is sometimes lost in online retail.
We can’t wait for 2017 when the show returns and hope to have an even bigger and better stand then.
