Valentine's Day Fairy Garden Picnic

Add a little Valentine’s Day love to your fairy garden with simple DIY projects. Here’s a little garden I’ve created for Miss C to enjoy on ‘love day’.

Picnic Blanket – Glue two pieces of felt together. You could add some ribbon between the felt for a sweet edging. I like to use two pieces of felt because not only can your blanket be double sided/reversable, the double thickness also helps the blanket sit flat on uneven surfaces like pebbles.

Wooden Mushrooms – Re-purpose drawer knobs as mushrooms in your fairy garden. These were already white so I just gave them a quick rough-up with sandpaper before painting them in acrylic paint. I painted white dots and added a little glitter glue, then gave them all a coat of water based varnish.

Pipe Cleaner Heart Picks – These were so simple and added height to the garden. To make these I folded the top end of the pipe cleaner about a third of the way down, then bent the looped section into a heart shape. If you don’t have pipe cleaners, you could cut a heart shape from card and glue it to a stick.

For the extra touches, I picked up some lady bugs from a craft store and used a leaf skeleton as a tea tray. The picnic food are fuschia flower buds picked from a plant in our garden. Natural pebbles and preserved moss cover the soil, with a scattering of pink aquarium pebbles for that extra pink-alicious touch.

To keep the magic of your fairy garden growing, your little fairy gardener could use these ideas to decorate their garden for the fairies. Or the fairies may decorate the garden as a special surprise for your child. We’d love to hear about your fairy visits.
